As you complete the microphone check, make sure to speak out loud clearly for a few seconds.

If that's not working, please read this article for microphone tips and troubleshooting.

Tips for getting past the Microphone check

Make sure that your microphone is plugged in BEFORE you open the screen recorder. The microphone check test will NOT detect your microphone if it is plugged in AFTER you open the screen recorder.

We list all of the audio devices you have plugged in. Click the dropdown on the screen recorder to see all audio devices.

Select the device you'd like to use:

We will only show devices that were plugged in BEFORE you opened the screen recorder. If you opened the screen recorder THEN plugged headphones in, you have to close the screen recorder and open it again.

  • Ensure your computer detects your microphone. If your computer is not detecting any audio from your microphone, you may need to use a different microphone. Here's how to test this in your computer's settings:

Mac:

Go to System Preferences > Sound > Input, then select your microphone

The "Input level" will move up and down as you speak if your microphone is working

Windows:

Navigate to Control Panel > Sound > Recording, and select the microphone you want to use.

The bars will light up with green as you speak if your microphone is working

  • Be aware of where your mic is. You may be covering it with your hand or it may be too close to you (so it sounds muffled)

  • If you have multiple audio inputs (i.e. microphone, headphone), unplug all audio inputs other than the microphone you intend to use.

  • Uninstall and reinstall the recorder. If you’re still experiencing issues passing our audio test, something may be corrupted in the recorder installation.

  • Why isn't my microphone showing up in the microphone list?

    Make sure that your microphone is plugged in BEFORE you open the screen recorder. The microphone check test will NOT detect your microphone if it is plugged in AFTER you open the screen recorder.

  • I am downloading or have downloaded the app. Why isn't my microphone being detected?

    These may be the reasons why it is happening;

    • You are not waiting for the app to finish downloading before clicking on the icon to open the software.

    • You are having problems downloading the app (i.e. a poor connection).

Make sure your internet connection is stable and try taking the test again if you can.
